You know how slavery has been abolished? Not true. Slavery is now a much bigger part of the world's labour force than it was before it was made illegal.
The Bedfordshire police have just found 24 slaves at a traveler's site. Some have been slaves for 15 years. Experts say that slavery and indentured labour (where you are sold to an owner for a number of years) are both growing in Britain and in the West generally. Especially in the domestic 'services' required by the rich.
Indian boom-time cannot do without it. Even official Indian statistics say that 13 million under 14 year olds are working hours you and I would not believe. Charities and NGOs say the figure is much higher. They estimate 384 MILLION 3-14 year olds are working in India. Many of these kids are slaves or indentured. All of them are forced.
Next time you hear another expert explain how capitalism is improving the lot of the world's poor, throw something at the tele.
